A narrow,
often hourglass-shaped stringed instrument having three
or four strings and a fretted fingerboard, typically held
flat across the knees while sitting and played by plucking
or strumming. Also called Appalachian dulcimer, mountain
dulcimer.
With
the Celtic revival and global resurgence of this very melodic
music there has been an increasing desire and interest from
musicians young to old to play Celtic instruments and adapt
them into various styles of music from Bluegrass to Rock.
The
Banjola is a beautiful instrument that is played like a
5-string banjo but has superb sustain and tone not possible
on a conventional banjo. It makes a great travel banjo and
is perfect for adding a new dimension to your playing!
